This is the first time I attempted cooking a garlic chicken and I was surprised to see how good it actually turned out. As popular as chicken items generally are, I don’t particularly like it when they have that unpleasant chicken smell or taste.
Thanks to the magic of garlic which takes away all the chicken smell and replaces it with the amazing flavour. With just one ingredient, you will be creating a whole unique dish. It’s like a chicken version of the garlic bread 😜

Why I love this recipe
- Less cutting. You only need to make a few larger pieces of a chicken breast. Literally takes less than a minute.
- Fewer ingredients. The only ingredient that requires preparation, apart from the chicken, is garlic. Also, you don’t need to chop them, just peel them and use them as whole pieces.
- Quick to make. The actual cooking time for this garlic chicken is just about 10 minutes.
- Less fat. A little bit of butter and that’s all it takes.
- Versatile meal. You can enjoy this meal on it’s own or any carbs of your choice.
Protein and calories
I haven’t used any cream in this recipe which makes this meal high in protein with relatively lower amount of fat. This meal has a good 40 gram of protein with just around 400 calories, making it a healthy protein rich meal. This recipe has become my latest personal favourite.
Ingredients needed
- Chicken breast: While I prefer chicken breast for this recipe, you can also use chicken thigh. I made this original recipe with chicken breast but Usha made this again for the video using chicken thigh. Both taste great.
- Plain flour: Plain flour eka all purpose flour for the coating.
- Chicken stock: Chicken stock gives the creaminess in the chicken. You can also make chicken stock using stock cubes that you can buy from the supermarket.
- Garlic: As you can already tell, garlic is the most important ingredient in this garlic chicken recipe.
- Butter: Use unsalted butter if you have. Otherwise, cut the salt amount in the chicken.
- Olive oil: Adding a little bit of olive oil helps butter not to burn.
- Italian herbs: Although this is optional, I have tried this recipe with the italian herbs and without. I liked with the herbs.
Prakash’s recipe tips
- Cut chicken to medium pieces. Making them too small will make them dry and too big also won’t cook consistently.
- Do not stir too soon. Let the chicken roast well on both sides before beginning to stir.
- Use whole garlic. Do not cut them as it will make them burn. You can cut them into halves if they are big.
- Add paprika in the flour. This will give nice golden colour.
Variations
- Want to make more tender version of this recipe? Make this garlic chicken bites that go well with your drink.
- Rather craving for some chicken nuggets? Try this easy chicken nuggets recipe.
Serving
- With baked potato. I roasted some potato in an airfryer on side. This is my preferred combo.
- With steamed rice. It tastes great with some steamed rice. Use Jasmine rice as it has softer texture.
Storage instructions
- To store: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
- To freeze: Let leftovers cool completely, then store them in a shallow container in the freezer for up to three months.
- Reheating: Microwave leftovers in 30-second intervals or reheat in a saucepan over medium heat until warm. Add a splash of water or broth if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Roast the chicken on both sides without stirring them. If you get any water, wait until the water evaporates completely and get the chicken toasted while dry.
