This tasty, vegan friendly teriyaki tofu is very quick and easy to make. This dish looks simple yet these shiny little tofu cubes are delicious and it’s very fun to eat them. I am using firm tofu in this recipe which results in teriyaki tofu pieces to be tender but juicy. Not too soft but not hard either.
Do not use soft tofu as it may break down during the cooking process. You can use the extra firm tofu if you like but it tends to be less juicier than the firm tofu.
Protein content in this teriyaki tofu
This is an excellent dish to get some plant-based protein. I have made this recipe for 3 people which gives 14g of protein on around 200 calories per serve. If you want a bit more protein then make this recipe for 1.5 times the people you have which should give you 21g of protein with 300 calories per serve.
Serving
Serve this teriyaki tofu with medium grain white rice or brown rice. It tastes best with the Jasmine rice. You can top it with some mayonnaise if you like. Mayo in teriyaki goes really well.

Teriyaki Tofu Recipe (Easy)
Ingredients
- 400 g firm tofu
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp garlic
Sauce
- 4 tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- ½ cup water
- 1 tsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Pat dry the tofu with a paper towel or kitchen towel.
- Cut the tofu into 1 inch cubes.
- In a large bowl or container add cornstarch and put the tofu cubes then coat nicely.400 g firm tofu, 2 tbsp cornstarch
- Take a measuring cup and add all sauce items. Then mix it well.4 tbsp teriyaki sauce, 1 tbsp soy sauce, ½ cup water, 1 tsp cornstarch
- Heat a large pan and spray oil or add olive oil.1 tbsp olive oil
- Now put the coatined tofu cube in the pan (one by one). Cook for 3 minutes.
- Cook all sides nicely until it's golden and crispy. Then add garlic and cook for 1 minute.1 tbsp garlic
- Then add the sauce that we made earlier.
- Toss everything together and stir for 1 minute, until the sauce is thickened and the tofu is coated in the sauce. Now ready to serve. Top the teriyaki tofu with roasted sesame seeds and spring onion.
